The Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (EMRS), provides patients with life threatening conditions in remote and rural areas of Scotland, with rapid access to the skills of a consultant in emergency or intensive care medicine.  The consultants are ready to respond to requests for help, by helicopter or plane, within minutes.

September 2012 saw the EMRS team and retrieval experts from around the world run the first diet of the new Diploma in Retrieval and Transfer Medicine.  The exam was hosted by the Faculty of Pre-hospital Care of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

The first diet of the new retrieval medicine exam was sold out.  Doctors and paramedics from services in the UK and Australia took part in the inaugural sitting which took place on the 6th and 7th of September.

On 10th November 2011 EMRS won the BUPA Foundation Award 2011, 'Technology for Healthy Outcomes' for the innovative iPhone app developed by Dr. Dave McKean. The app allows the EMRS team access to logistic information whilst involved in the retrieval of critically ill patients from remote and rural areas of Scotland.

Following on from that, EMRS were fortunate to win an NHS Scotland eHealth award on the 27th September 2012, 'Best Use of Mobile Technology in NHS Scotland'.

In early October we were further delighted to receive another award.  At the UK E-Health Insider awards in London, EMRS were winners of the 'Best Use of Mobile Technology in Healthcare Award'
